Mai Tai is a 1995 Jeanneau Lagoon 37 TPI catamaran. Designed by Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot Prevost and Built by Tillotson-Pearson Inc in Rhode Island, Mai Tai is a US federally documented vessel. Her construction is hand laid up tridirectional fiberglass injected with vinylester resin. Balsa core is used for the hull and deck for stiffness strength and insulation. The bridge deck is incorporated with the inner half of each hull; the outer halves of the port and stbd hulls are chemically bonded to the center portion. All bulkheads and other bondings are made using two layers of bi-directional glass roving.
Composite rudders on stainless steel rudder stock with self aligning “Jeanneau” bearing blocks.
Mai Tai has 3 staterooms(bedrooms), 2 heads(bathrooms), 3 showers, a well appointed galley with a 9cuft fridge and a 1.4cuft freezer, a beautiful salon and a spacious cockpit. The interior is oiled teak and the floors are teak and holley.
She is equipped with modern electronics including radar, a chart plotter, OpenCPN computer plotting, 2 stand-alone autopilots, AIS, DSC VHF radio, and an Icom M710 SSB radio. Her Engines are twin Perkins M20’s with shaft drive. And she has a 35 gal/hr AC watermaker.
In sails she has a 110% Genoa, an 85% Jib for offshore, A Screecher, a Main , a 1.5oz asymmetrical spinnaker and a 0.75oz symmetrical spinnaker for light air. She can cruise around 7 knots with just the motors and 7-10 knots under sail with good wind. The fastest that we have sailed her on flat water was 15.8 knots and 16.7kts surfing on a wave.
For fire safety equipment Mai Tai has automatic fire suppression in the engine rooms, 3 commercial fire extinguishers, a fire blanket in the galley, and a smoke detector.
For offshore safety Mai Tai has a 6 person liferaft, a well stocked ditch bag, an EPIRB, Inreach satellite tracking, a Jordan Series drogue, jacklines, tethers, 1 throwable horseshoe ring (with light whistle and mirror), 1 Lifesling throwable with 150′ of line, 4 inflatable harness lifejackets and 9 Category 1 commercial life jackets.
Mai Tai’s power is generated by 898W of solar panels and a 400W AirX wind generator. This goes into a 400ah CALB Lithium battery. We generally make about 180A more than we need on sunny days which allows us to make 50gals of water with the AC watermaker and recover the power usage within a day.
